Silver neckpiece with flocked wallpaper pattern over black acrylic

Artist Statement

Welcome to my new blog page. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce my jewellery and to provide a brief statement about my inspirations and philosophy.

Inspired by pattern found not only in everyday life but also in the work of William Morris I create jewellery that reflects my love of the processes of making by hand an object of adornment. Conceptually, my work seems to ebb and flow through various aspects of identity and how jewellery can be used to reflect particular aspects of the self. The most interesting process to me is piercing silver sheet to create intricate designs based on Morris wallpaper, contemporary magazine images or illustrations from children's stories. I have a love of integrating precious and "non - precious" items particulary items with sentimental value or some kind of story as I enjoy challenging the perceptions of preciousness and how each object that I create can reflect the values, identity or special memories of the wearer.
